Adventure Seekers
A huge selection of attractions, things-to-do, and points of interest within easy driving distance of Johnson City:
  • LBJ National Historical Park - the park protects the birthplace, home, ranch, and final resting place of Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th President of the United States.
  • Hamilton Pool - Hamilton Pool Preserve is a natural pool that was created when the dome of an underground river collapsed due to massive erosion thousands of years ago.  You must make your reservations online for a particular date.  Choose from one of two time periods: 9 am - 1 pm, or 2 pm- 6 pm. You pay online for your reservation fee, and pay for your entrance fee with cash or local check when you arrive at the preserve.
  • Hill Country Science Mill - The Science Mill is a family destination offering a fun, interactive learning environment for all ages. Through cutting-edge technology-based exhibits, games, and programs, the Science Mill expands students' understanding and appreciation of science in their everyday lives. By igniting their curiosity and inspiring them to pursue post-secondary education, the Science Mill experience starts students on the path to a life-long career in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
  • Pedernales Falls State Park - Many of the activities in Pedernales Falls State Park center around the Pedernales River: swimming, tubing, wading and fishing. The park also has a number of picnic areas and campsites, including some primitive campsites that require a hike of two miles or more to reach. There are also 19.8 miles (31.9 km) of hiking and mountain biking trails, 10 miles of equestrian trails, and 14 miles of backpacking trails.
  • Exotic Resort Zoo - An independently-owned and operated zoo safari resort & preserve, where several endangered species of animals have a chance to increase their numbers, while also allowing visitors like you to safely enjoy their company and natural beauty.
  • Wine tours and tastings – Johnson City and the surrounding area is home to some of the finest wineries in Texas, if not the country.  There are also several tasting rooms that offer not only Texas wines, but wines from all over the world.  Tour operations are plentiful, and you can even create your own custom-made tour.
  • Luckenbach, TX – no visit to the Texas Hill Country is complete without a visit to the infamous Luckenbach , immortalized in song by Waylon Jennings, with its ghost-town vibe, small population (3!), and strong western aesthetic.  Known as a venue for country music for both obscure artists and big names alike……”Everybody is somebody in Luckenbach.”  It is often common for visitors to bring instruments and take turns performing informally with others in the crowd.
